Veteran Benefits

Information & Resources

Did you know Sterling Flight Training is a Veterans’ Affairs-friendly flight training school? We are proud of this part of our pedigree as an institution, as we welcome large numbers of veterans who desire to continue exploring their country and world through aviation.

Montgomery GI Bill

Flight training benefits are extended to those who want to advance their pilot qualifications. You must have a Private Pilots License (PPL) and valid medical certification before you start training. If you are training under the Montgomery GI Bill the VA will reimburse you for 60 percent of the approved charges.

Post-9/11 GI Bill

Sterling Flight Training is eligible to offer Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits through our partnership with Liberty University’s School of Aeronautics as a Flight Training Affiliate (FTA).

The Post-9/11 GI Bill program entitles veterans, their spouses, or their dependent children the opportunity to be awarded 100 percent of their educational expenses, including a housing stipend.

Sterling Flight Training and Liberty University participate in the Yellow Ribbon program, which allows eligible students to continue training once their annual GI Bill® funding has been exceeded. Liberty does not have an annual cap on Yellow Ribbon programs.

For more information please contact Liberty University’s Military Affairs.

GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available here.

University Program

We are proud to be a Flight Training Affiliate (FTA) of Liberty University. We are always striving to help veterans make the most of their benefits, and students in this program may receive nearly triple the yearly funds of someone in vocational training.

Transition To The Airlines With Your Experience As A Military Rotorcraft Pilot

Liberty’s B.S. in Aviation Degree, in conjunction with our approved FTA location, can help you transition to the airlines by earning your fixed wing flight ratings in a few short semesters. The B.S. in Aviation Degree is eligible for a military tuition discount, an ERP tuition discount, and the GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon.

For those interested in learning more about veteran benefits, or to take advantage of financial aid by completing the Liberty University Aeronautics program, apply on the Liberty website here to start your journey.
