Five Ways to Stay Connected to Aviation During COVID-19

While we are still operating under normal business conditions at Sterling, albeit with enhanced precautions in place, in many areas of the country pilots are grounded and training has halted.

For those who love flying, this can be a trying time and make you feel disconnected from the aviation community. Here are some virtual ways you can stay plugged into the skies while at home.

  1. FlightAware: A live flight tracking website, FlightAware receives information from air traffic control systems in more than 45 countries. Search by city, flight number, tail number – even enjoy discussion boards among the community.
  2. LiveATC.net: LiveATC is an audio streaming site that provides a live feed of Air Traffic Control communications around the world. There are more than 2250 active feeds available.
  3. Flight Pilot Simulator 3D: Available in the app stores for Apple and Android. Pilot your commercial jet through different scenarios in this free simulator game. Guide and steer your plane through all of the waypoints to ensure you head to the correct destination, go through all of the waypoints and land at your destination airport within the time limit to earn yourself more pilot stripes.
  4. Airport Webcams: Lots of airports around the world provide live webcam feeds for aviation enthusiasts. AirportWebcams.net is a database of more than 2,170 webcam feeds. New feeds are added regularly giving you a look into the operations of airports around the globe.
  5. My FlightRadar24: Create your personal flight logbook online. See all your flights on a map and get beautiful statistics on your most visited airports, most flown aircraft, CO2 emissions, and more, plus you can share your logbook with friends to follow along. Add your past and future flights to get started.

In addition to these tools, if you are local to the Jacksonville area, feel free to stop in for a session in our simulator or schedule a flight experience with us. All training at Sterling is done one-on-one and adheres to advised social-distancing recommendations.
